All Engineers

Course Content:

Various courses are arranged in-line with the development requirements of the engineer and specific topics relating to the engineer's particular discipline.

The course content is dependent on the nature of training as specified below.

Training Method:

The training methods vary:

The senior engineers will present training days on various technical subjects.

The supply chain will be called on to give specialist product training to the engineers.

Specialist training courses are arranged for Safety, environmental, CDM, legislative standards and software familiarisation (electrical, hydraulic, design tools etc)

Process Engineers will attend external seminars on specialist process topics.

GRADUATE ENGINEER TRAINING

Objective:

Registration as a professional engineer is dependent on the candidate meeting the educational requirements followed by a period of initial professional development that will allow the required competence levels to be achieved.

In order to guide development during training, short-term objectives are set for the young engineer by a nominated mentor that compliments the business needs and contributes towards competence development.

Who is it for?

All Graduate Engineers

Course Content:

There are ten objectives, arranged in two groups, requiring the trainees to achieve competence in the technical aspects of engineering and the wider aspects associated with business and personal development.

Technical objectives:

Materials and components, engineering processes, assembly installations and commissioning, communication and information systems, design and manufacture.

Business and Personal Objectives:

Management and engineering activities, financial implications, commercial implications, personal skills, legal and social implications.

Training Method:

The graduate engineers objectives are assessed during placements in the following business processes:

Marketing, Tendering, Planning, Engineering, Design, Project Management, Commercial Management, Installation, Commissioning, Finance, Customer Services, Quality and Documentation.

This may involve secondment for a short period to another business sector within Balfour Beatty.
